The Power of Positive Affirmations in Your Career Journey

Have you ever found yourself considering a career change, but lack the confidence to take that next step? Or maybe you’ve started the process, but struggle to communicate well in an interview. Is it possible you are assuming you cannot achieve what you’re hoping for? Those negative thoughts take their toll. Wherever the issue may lie, implementing positive affirmations and visualizations into your daily routine can give you the extra edge needed to not only improve your interview skills and outlook in your job search but give you the little something extra you need to finally land that elusive dream job.

Positive affirmations and visualizations of success are key to reaching your goals. One study shows that individuals who are experiencing stress but then practice self-affirmation significantly improve their problem-solving skills. What exactly are affirmations, you ask? They are the things we say to ourselves repeatedly, either out loud or in our minds. These thoughts can be both positive and negative and help shape the world around us. As one article states, “Affirmations do indeed strengthen us by helping us believe in the potential of an action we desire to manifest. When we verbally affirm our dreams and ambitions, we are instantly empowered with a deep sense of reassurance that our wishful words will become reality.” In short, what we tell ourselves on a daily basis matters.

Looking for a new career can be overwhelming and intimidating, but what are you affirming to yourself in the process? In the coming weeks, we will examine three specific affirmations that can provide support to think positively as you navigate finding the right job.

  • You can overcome your fear of the interview; practicing with common questions will help calm the anxiety.
  • You can develop your skillset and stop procrastinating. Making goals and baby steps of progress will strengthen your confidence.
  • And three, you will be a great team player. You can communicate the way you’ve always wanted. By doing your research and asking the right questions, you will put your best foot forward.

This change does not happen overnight but sticks with us. Like exercise, building these positive habits takes time, and the endeavor is a worthwhile investment. Affirmations help purify our thoughts and restructure the dynamic of our brains so we believe we can do what we once thought impossible.
